Sewing for a Friend {Road Trip Case}

I think I’ve mentioned it before but I love to sew for my family and friends. Nothing makes me happier than them actually wanting my stuff {wait, I think they want my stuff …} as gifts. The downside for them is that they rarely get it on time. In fact I have a personal goal to get it to them within {3} months of said event, but it doesn’t always happen. Sometimes I run out of time, sometimes I run out of ideas …

One of my oldest friendships {we go back more than 25 years!!} is a crazy talented hooker crochet-er. I’ve sewn her several different gifts for her crochet projects & tools {bags, baskets and zippered pouches} and was at a loss trying to come up with something I hadn’t already made her … and then Anna, all creative and talented swoops in with a new pattern, The Road Trip Case.

I knew this would be perfect for my friend’s newest hobby, embroidery.
Plus I love Noodlehead patterns and *needed* and excuse to try this one out.

As luck would have it, I had also purchased the Feathers Foundation Paper Piecing Pattern {ya know you want to … say it three times fast!!} from Sometimes Crafter and again *needed* a project “to put a feather on it.”
(Christina is from the Portland area, she’ll like that reference!)

I worked on the case over a handful of days.
It is NOT a quick sew. Not particularly difficult (until you get to the binding, which is always the trickiest part for a type-A perfectionist like me) but not quick.

I like the challenge of a new project.
Working with new materials … like vinyl.
Trying out new techniques.

I had a couple of oops along the way …

Like not completely catching the bottom of the vinyl pocket when I stitched on the center accent strip … so I added a little zig-zag stitch which ended up being a happy accident.

Like sewing the loop onto the front of the bag, thus having to sew the button on the back of the bag. It’s one-of-a-kind people!

But otherwise, I completely love how it turned out … and more importantly my friend loved it to {or at least loved it enough to share on social media, which is true love, right?!}.
